Information about the Men's Rape Prevention Project
The Men's Rape Prevention Project (MRPP) resulted from the DC Men Against Rape, which was created in 1987. The group consists of men from different backgrounds and ages who have come together with the common concern for the welfare and lives of women. These men believe that violence and rape towards women is choice made to exert power. When a man commits a crime against a woman, it then becomes an issue as it reflects on men. This group was created in order to redefine what it means to be a man and to prevent male violence and rape. The Men's ape Prevention Project strives to raise awareness regarding rape and the consequences of doing so.
The group provides workshops, training, presentations and consulting services. They supply resources and give opportunities for men to end sexual violence through community education, research, consulting and public action. The Men's Rape Prevention Project understands that the issue of rape should be confronted not only on a personal level, but as well as an institutional level. Institutions can contribute to rape prevention and the MRPP supports this by providing guidance and resources as well as reviewing and developing policies that are effective in sexual assault incidents. They also will follow up to ensure that the implementation of programs and policies are sufficed.
